We recently helped Matthew find his ideal role after College with Applied Integration and this is his story…

“In the first year of college, we used basic functions to get our basic coding skills in Java, HTML, JavaScript and SQL. In the second year of college, we had modules based on development styles and how and when they should be used. We also had a module on hardware so we learnt about the components of the computer and how to build one.

The second year we advanced the skills that we learnt in the prior year and we moved on to graphical interfaces in Java and different programming styles such as procedural event driven and object-oriented programming. I achieved a triple distinction star upon finishing college. Be clear, be confident and don’t overthink it. The beauty of your story is that it’s going to continue to evolve and your site can evolve with it. Your goal should be to make it feel right for right now. Later will take care of itself. It always does.

I'm currently working at Applied Integration on their Deft project application. The application can be used to control lab equipment and record data from experiments from manual inputs or through information supplied by the machines used during the experiment. Flutter and Python are being used to communicate with the application and the lab instruments. This application is designed to make experiments much easier and simpler to record and log and control.

I am learning a new programming language called Flutter which is a language created by Google. In the near future, I will be learning to program in Python to help with the development of the application. Working on this project has taught me the importance of teamwork as well as good written and verbal communication. Not only am I learning new languages while in the industry, this experience is helping me to understand and improve my coding ethics as I believe university and college don’t teach you enough about industry-standard and the importance of the structure and integrity of your work.

So far I've been blown away with the technologies that are being used, the methods of development and the two new coding languages that I'm currently learning. Every day I come into work knowing that I've got a challenge and I have a list of jobs to complete. My team are very supportive and understand that I'm new to both languages and they are always willing to support me when I get stuck. Every day is new and interesting as I am learning a lot more about both the languages and my industry I feel as though as I dive deeper into the project it will only get better.

Applied Integration is a fantastic place to work, everyone is friendly and the work that I am doing there is very exciting.”
